Every day we are working to prepare our students to change the world. Through years of experience in the classroom, many of us have developed valuable and effective practices, resources, insight and ideas for anti-racist teaching. We are experts in our field.
While we appreciate the information that is brought to us by academics and consultants, we know that ultimately, it is classroom teachers who do the day to day work of bringing conscious, anti-racist action to our students and often our school communities as well.
The Ida B. Wells Education Project began organizing this summer with a group of 25 teachers from around the US who are committed to student-centered, culturally relevant and empowering education. Our motto is: “Teachers talking to teachers about teaching is the best PD.” We believe in the collective strength and power of our community. Many of us have been organizers in movements against racism, leaders in our unions and pioneers in implementing Ethnic Studies in our area. Many of us are from the same communities and backgrounds as our students. Our leadership team is majority Black and HBCU alumni, with deep knowledge of Black struggle, Black culture and what it really means to teach for Black lives.
Join us and collaborate with other talented, committed and passionate anti-racist educators from around the country!
December 5th will be the first meeting in our Community, Creation and Liberation meeting series. Our meetings will bring together grassroots educators who want to connect, strategize and build our anti-racist tools, practice and campaigns together. Come learn about the work of IBWEP and meet our team. Please bring your voice, your ideas and be ready to share your own experiences and practices. Teaching can be isolating in the best of times. During this COVID crisis, we need each other more than ever. Let’s meet, grow stronger and support each other. Juntos somos fuertes!
Look out for more announcements and details about future events!
